How Does a Counting Scale Work?

This can be very helpful for industries where inventory is taken regularly in warehouses and production settings. When working with items manufactured in lots, this type of scale can help ensure the right amount of items per lot. It can even be helpful in laboratories where inventory of lab supplies is required for reordering.

Often this process begins by weighing one of the items to be counted or entering the weight manually. This is known as a sample weight. All items to be weighed are then placed on the scale.

The scale counts by dividing the total weight by the sample weight. This means that the count feature will only work for items of the same weight.

Using internal memory on a scale helps record and potentially reuse information without having to reweight or remeasure frequently weighed items. Another complementary feature often found on a counting scale is the accumulation feature. Accumulation enables storing item count data. This is useful for weighing and counting when the number of items is too large to fit on the scale simultaneously.
