The BLADE Program
July 29, 2024
The Lab Depot is proud to partner in education with the University of North Georgia’s College of Science & Mathematics. The Lab Depot has worked with UNG students for years in different capacities, the most recent being a distinctive business immersion experience for students in the College of Science & Mathematics.
Education to Industry
The university’s first program of its kind, BLADE (Business Leadership and Apprenticeship Development Experience) provided an accelerated immersion experience with practical application about how a business works for CSM juniors and seniors from September 2022 through December 2023.
The program focused on offering CSM students experience in a laboratory equipment and supply distribution business. Students were able to receive practical information regarding basic business practices for laboratory product sourcing in an e-commerce environment, transferrable to any industry. Specific focus was on observing and analyzing data points in critical business areas, shadowing department leaders in various business units, and discussing soft skills such as interviewing tips and learning about individual temperaments. The BLADE experience focused on supporting students in transitioning to the workforce after graduation, a potentially uncertain time for new graduates.
In addition to the BLADE program, The Lab Depot, Inc. has also given $10,000 in financial gifts through University Advancement in support of the new STEM building initiative.
A Special Thanks
The Lab Depot, Inc. is grateful to UNG’s College of Science and Mathematics for its support and efforts in making BLADE such a great experience for the students who participated in the program. Special thanks go to UNG CSM Director of Development Steve Shepherd, UNG CSM Dean Dr. John Leyba, The Lab Depot’s CEO John Seelke, CFO Jere Allen, and all of The Lab Depot Team for their commitment to serving the students of UNG’s CSM.
