Tetrathionate Broth Base Dehydrated Culture Media

The medium’s strength lies in its highly selective action, which is activated just prior to use. The base is rich in nutrients and contains Sodium Thiosulfate and Bile Salts to inhibit competing intestinal flora. Crucially, the addition of an Iodine-Potassium Iodide solution creates the selective chemical tetrathionate, which actively inhibits coliform organisms and Gram-positive bacteria, allowing Salmonella to grow freely. This base is specified in standard methods for Salmonella testing and incorporated by the FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM).

Please note: This product is a broth base and requires the addition of an Iodine-Potassium Iodide Solution just prior to inoculation. DO NOT REHEAT after adding the iodine solution. It is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.
