Thiosulfate Citrate Bile Salts Sucrose (TCBS) Agar Dehydrated Culture Media
Manufacturer: Neogen Inc.
Description
The agar’s core strength is its powerful dual selective and differential system. Bile Salts and increased salt concentrations inhibit most non-Vibrio species. For differentiation, Sucrose is included as a fermentable carbohydrate, and the pH indicators Bromothymol Blue and Thymol Blue provide a distinct color reaction: Sucrose-fermenting Vibrios (e.g., V. cholerae) produce acid, resulting in yellow colonies.
Please note: TCBS Agar must NOT be autoclaved. It is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.
Features:
- Highly selective for the isolation of Vibrio cholerae and other enteropathogenic Vibrios
- Contains high salt and Bile Salts to inhibit non-Vibrio bacteria
- Sucrose fermentation is differentiated by Bromothymol and Thymol Blue (yellow colonies for fermenters)
- Conforms to ISO 21872 standards for food testing
- Meets the nutritional and halophilic requirements of Vibrio spp
- Requires pre-incubation in Alkaline Saline Peptone Water (ASPW) according to ISO 21872-2
