Hektoen Enteric (HE) Agar Dehydrated Culture Media
Manufacturer: Neogen Inc.
Description
Hektoen Enteric Agar provides a dual layer of selectivity and differentiation. The bile salts mixture and Acid Fuchsin inhibit the growth of Gram-positive microorganisms, while allowing the target pathogens to thrive. The medium contains three fermentable carbohydrates, lactose, sucrose, and salicin, which are used for differentiation. A pH indicator, Bromothymol Blue, is also included to detect acid production from fermentation. Furthermore, Ferric Ammonium Citrate and Sodium Thiosulfate allow for the detection of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) production, which is indicated by colonies with characteristic black centers, a key trait of many Salmonella species. This combination of features makes HE Agar an indispensable tool for accurate and reliable enteric pathogen testing.
Please note: Hektoen Enteric Agar is for laboratory use in the isolation and differentiation of enteric pathogens and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.
