XLD Agar Dehydrated Culture Media
Manufacturer: Neogen Inc.
Description
The medium's strength lies in its powerful, multi-functional differentiation system: Fermentation/Decarboxylation: It uses xylose, lactose, and sucrose, along with lysine. Salmonella utilizes xylose but then decarboxylates lysine, causing the pH to neutralize. Non-target organisms maintain an acidic (yellow) pH.
Please note: XLD Agar must NOT be autoclaved. It is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.
Features:
- Used for the isolation and differentiation of enteric pathogens, particularly Salmonella spp
- Conforms to Harmonized USP/EP/JP Requirements for non-sterile product testing
- Sodium Deoxycholate provides powerful selectivity against Gram-positive bacteria
- Lysine Decarboxylation and sugar fermentation provide complex differentiation
- Black or black-centered colonies indicate positive hydrogen sulfide (H2S) production (presumptive Salmonella)
- Recommended for use with Rappaport Vassiliadis Salmonella Enrichment Broth (NCM0103) as a subculture medium
