Iodine Crystals, ACS Reagent Grade
Manufacturer: LabChem Inc.
Description
Features:
- ACS Certified Quality: Rigorously tested for non-volatile matter and chlorine/bromine content, ensuring minimal interference in sensitive electrochemical or spectroscopic assays.
- Versatile Redox Reagent: A standard oxidizing agent used in "Iodometry" to determine the concentration of reducing agents such as thiosulfate, arsenic, and various sulfides.
- High Sublimation Purity: The crystalline form allows for further purification via sublimation if specialized ultra-trace analysis is required.
- Standardized Reactivity: Meticulously manufactured to ensure a consistent I2 content, critical for calculating precise molarity in volumetric solutions.
Safety & Regulatory Information:
WARNING! Chemical Hazard: Iodine is toxic if swallowed or inhaled. It causes severe skin burns and eye damage. It is also highly toxic to aquatic life.
- Personal Protection: Wear chemical-resistant nitrile gloves, safety splash goggles, and a lab coat. Always handle iodine in a certified laboratory fume hood to avoid inhalation of purple iodine vapors.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place in an amber glass or specialized fluorinated plastic container. Iodine is highly corrosive to most metals; do not store in metal cabinets or near metal equipment.
- Staining Note: Iodine vapor and crystals will leave persistent orange/brown stains on skin, clothing, and laboratory surfaces. Stains can often be neutralized with a dilute solution of sodium thiosulfate.
- Shipping: Regulated as a hazardous material (UN3495) for transport.
