Mannitol Salt Agar Dehydrated Culture Media
Manufacturer: Neogen Inc.
Description
The medium's dual functionality is its key advantage. A high salt concentration (7.5%) acts as a powerful selective agent, effectively inhibiting the growth of most bacteria other than staphylococci. For differentiation, D-Mannitol is included as a fermentable carbohydrate and Phenol Red as a pH indicator. Pathogenic staphylococci ferment the mannitol, producing acid which turns the medium a distinct yellow color. Non-pathogenic strains do not ferment mannitol, and their colonies remain red. The medium conforms to Harmonized USP/EP/JP Requirements, ensuring its reliability for compliance-critical applications.
Please note: Mannitol Salt Agar is for laboratory use in the isolation of staphylococci and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.
