The lithium heparin anticoagulant prevents blood coagulation by inhibiting thrombin formation, preserving analyte stability while minimizing interference in most chemistry assays. The spray-coating application ensures uniform anticoagulant distribution throughout the specimen for consistent plasma quality. Specimens require 3 to 5 gentle inversions immediately after collection for thorough mixing, followed by centrifugation at 1300-1800g for 10 minutes at 18-25°C for optimal plasma separation. Tubes are sterilized by radiation to ISO 11137 standards, achieving a 10-6 Sterility Assurance Level (SAL) for contamination-free specimen collection.
