The 15 mm x 100 mm format with 18 mL fill volume provides optimal surface area for observing the characteristic pink to magenta colonies produced by Salmonella species, including S. typhi and S. paratyphi A, as a result of propylene glycol utilization. In contrast, other Enterobacteriaceae members produce blue, blue-green, white, or colorless colonies, while Gram-positive bacteria and non-glucose fermenting organisms are inhibited, providing exceptional selectivity for Salmonella detection. This chromogenic differentiation eliminates the need for time-consuming biochemical confirmation tests, accelerating identification workflows and enabling same-day presumptive results for food safety testing, clinical diagnostics, and environmental monitoring applications where rapid Salmonella detection is critical for outbreak investigation and product safety decisions.
