Dextrose Tryptone Agar Dehydrated Culture Media
Manufacturer: Neogen Inc.
Description
The medium's primary benefit is its ability to differentiate organisms based on their metabolic activity. It contains dextrose as a fermentable carbohydrate and Bromocresol Purple as a pH indicator. As spoilage bacteria grow, they produce acid from the dextrose, causing a drop in pH that results in a distinct color change in the medium. This makes for easy, presumptive identification of your target organisms. Originally specified by the National Canners Association, this agar is a trusted solution for isolating these spore-forming bacteria from canned tomato products and dairy.
Please note: This product is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.
Features:
- Used for the isolation of mesophilic and thermophilic spoilage microorganisms
- Ideal for detecting "flat-sour" organisms like Bacillus coagulans and B. stearothermophilus
- Contains a pH indicator (Bromocresol Purple) for clear visual differentiation
- Dextrose fermentation causes a visible drop in pH
- Conforms to standards for isolating thermophilic bacteria from canned foods
