Formaldehyde, 10% v/v, Buffered (Formalin) from LabChem Inc. is a pH-stabilized solution designed for the optimal fixation of biological tissues. While unbuffered formalin can become acidic over time—leading to the formation of "formalin pigment" (acid elution hematin) which interferes with staining—this buffered version maintains a neutral pH. It is the most widely used fixative in pathology and anatomy labs because it preserves cellular morphology and cross-links proteins effectively, ensuring that tissue samples remain stable for long-term storage and subsequent paraffin embedding or slide preparation.

- Storage: Store at room temperature in a well-ventilated area. Do not refrigerate, as this can cause the formaldehyde to precipitate out of solution (paraformaldehyde formation).
- Disposal: Must be disposed of as hazardous waste in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
