Fluoride Standard (1 ppm) with TISAB II
Manufacturer: LabChem Inc.
Description
Features:
- Interference Masking: The TISAB II component contains CDTA, which effectively chelates Aluminum (Al3+) and Iron (Fe3+) ions. This prevents these metals from binding with fluoride, ensuring the electrode measures "Total" fluoride accurately
- Ionic Strength Equalization: Provides a high background of inert ions, so the ionic strength of the standard and the sample remain identical, satisfying the requirements of the Nernst equation
- pH Control: Stabilizes the solution between pH 5.0 and 5.5. This prevents interference from OH- ions and ensures fluoride does not convert into hydrofluoric acid ($HF$), which the electrode cannot detect
- Workflow Accuracy: Reduces the number of manual pipetting steps, significantly lowering the risk of volumetric error and cross-contamination in high-volume municipal and environmental labs
Safety & Regulatory Information:
WARNING! Chemical Hazard: Chemical Hazard: This solution contains TISAB II (acetic acid, sodium chloride, and CDTA). It may cause mild skin and eye irritation.
- Personal Protection: Wear nitrile gloves, safety splash goggles, and a lab coat.
- Storage: Store at controlled room temperature (15°C to 30°C) in the original polyethylene container.
- Crucial Handling Note: Do not store in glass. Fluoride ions react with silica in glass, which will etch the container and alter the fluoride concentration of your standard.
- Measurement Tip: To achieve the highest precision, ensure that your standards and samples are at the same temperature during measurement, as the slope of the electrode is temperature-dependent.
