Fehling's Solution "B", also known as Alkaline Tartrate Solution, is the second component of the Fehling's test used to differentiate between water-soluble carbohydrate and ketone functional groups. While Fehling's "A" provides the copper(II) sulfate, Fehling's "B" contains the Sodium Potassium Tartrate (Rochelle Salt) and Sodium Hydroxide necessary to stabilize the copper ions in an alkaline environment.

DANGER! Corrosive Material: This solution contains Sodium Hydroxide and is highly alkaline. It can cause severe skin burns and serious eye damage.
- Personal Protection: Use chemical-resistant nitrile gloves, safety goggles/face shield, and a lab coat. Handle in a well-ventilated area.
- Storage: Store at room temperature (15°C-30°C) in the original plastic container. Keep away from acids and aluminum.
- Preparation Note: Always mix Solution "A" and "B" in equal parts only at the time of the test, as the combined reagent is not stable for long-term storage.
