Eriochrome® Blue-Black R, Dry Form in NaCl from LabChem Inc. is a pre-blended analytical indicator specifically formulated for the titrimetric determination of Calcium. By dispersing the dye (Calcon) in a Sodium Chloride carrier, LabChem provides a highly stable reagent that avoids the rapid degradation and oxidation typical of liquid calcium indicators. This dry mixture is a primary reagent for APHA 3500-Ca and EPA methods, where it provides a sharp color transition from wine-red to pure blue at the titration endpoint.

- Selective Determination: When used at a high pH (approx. 12–13), it allows for the titration of calcium even in the presence of magnesium, which precipitates as a hydroxide.
- Consistent Dye Dispersion: The NaCl matrix ensures that even small "pinch" measurements provide a consistent amount of indicator dye, preventing over-saturation of the sample color.
- Sharp Visual Endpoint: Changes from a wine-red (calcium-bound) to a distinct pure blue (endpoint), critical for accurate volumetric analysis in hard water samples.

NOTE! Minimal Hazard: This dry mixture is classified as non-hazardous under GHS standards (Health: 1, Flammability: 0).
- Personal Protection: Wear standard laboratory PPE, including safety glasses and nitrile gloves, to prevent minor irritation.
- Storage: Store at room temperature (15°C-30°C) in the original poly bottle. Keep the container tightly sealed to protect against moisture, as NaCl is hygroscopic.
- Handling: Ensure the sample pH is properly adjusted with a strong base (like Sodium Hydroxide) before adding the indicator to ensure the correct color transition.
