Eriochrome Black T (EBT) from LabChem Inc. is a high-sensitivity complexometric indicator utilized primarily for the determination of water hardness. As an azo dye, it forms a distinct wine-red complex with divalent metal ions like Calcium (Ca2+) and Magnesium (Mg2+). During titration with EDTA at pH 10, the solution shifts to a sharp, vivid blue at the endpoint.

Safety & Handling:
WARNING! Irritant: Causes serious eye irritation and may cause skin and respiratory irritation.
- Personal Protection: Wear standard PPE, including nitrile gloves, safety goggles, and a lab coat. Handle powder in a well-ventilated area to avoid dust inhalation.
- Optimal Performance: Titrations must be conducted at a pH of approximately 10 (typically using an ammonia/ammonium chloride buffer) to ensure the indicator functions in its blue deprotonated state.
- Storage: Store at room temperature (15°C-30°C) in the original, tightly sealed container. Protect from light and corrosive vapors.
