Sodium Hydroxide 50% (w/w), Reagent Grade
Manufacturer: VWR International
Description
Features:
- Specifically tested for low Iron (≤ 5 ppm) and Nickel (≤ 0.001%), preventing unwanted catalytic reactions or contamination in sensitive syntheses
- This 50% concentrated solution is a standard "mother liquor" for laboratories, allowing for the rapid preparation of 1N, 5N, or 10N NaOH solutions without the exothermic hazards of dissolving solid pellets
- Maximum Sodium Carbonate content of 0.3%, essential for high-precision acid-base titrations where carbonate interference must be minimized
- Its 1.53 g/cm³ density provides a stable liquid that is easy to pipette or dispense via specialized caustic-resistant pumps
Safety & Storage Information:
- DANGER! Extremely Corrosive: This solution causes severe skin burns and permanent eye damage. It reacts violently with acids and is corrosive to metals (especially aluminum, tin, and zinc)
- Personal Protection: Wear heavy-duty nitrile gloves, chemical splash goggles, and a face shield. An apron is highly recommended
- Storage: Store at room temperature (>15°C to prevent crystallization) in its original poly bottle. Never store in glass containers as concentrated NaOH can "etch" and eventually weaken the glass
- Handling: Always add caustic to water, never water to caustic, to avoid localized boiling and splashing
