Snapwell™ Inserts
Manufacturer: Corning Life Sciences
Description
The defining feature of the Snapwell is its detachable ring-supported membrane. Cells are grown to confluence on the 12 mm membrane within a standard 6-well plate format. Once the monolayer is established, the ring (and the membrane it supports) can be "snapped" out of the insert housing and clamped directly into a vertical or horizontal chamber for real-time measurements of ion transport, resistance (TEER), or drug permeability. These translucent membranes are the industry standard for transport studies due to their high pore density and consistent performance in electrophysiological assays
Features:
- Chamber Compatibility: Specifically designed for seamless integration into Ussing chambers and horizontal/vertical diffusion systems
- Detachable Membrane Ring: Allows for the transfer of the intact cell monolayer without the bulky plastic housing
- Tissue Culture (TC) Treated: The membrane surface is optimized for high-density cell attachment and the formation of tight junctions
- Standardized Growth Area: Features a 1.12 cm2 growth area on a 12 mm diameter membrane
- Convenient Packaging: Supplied sterile and pre-loaded in 6-well plates to facilitate standard feeding and incubation protocols
Primary Applications:
- Electrophysiology: Measuring Transepithelial Electrical Resistance (TEER) and short-circuit current (Isc)
- Drug Transport: Studying the movement of molecules across polarized epithelial (e.g., Caco-2) or endothelial barriers
- Mucosal Research: Ideal for studying respiratory or intestinal tissue models in a controlled diffusion environment
