Laminar Flow Hoods: Aseptic Techniques

From its earliest stage, beer preparation requires the highest level of cleanliness and sterility. In “The Brewer’s Laboratory Handbook: Brewing without the Blindfold” the case is made for creating an aseptic environment when creating and handling yeast culture strains. Aseptic techniques create a barrier between the contaminants in the environment and the sterile culture cell, and many brewers create positive pressure enclosures as a simple solution to this problem.

Laminar Flow Cabinets are high efficiency cabinets ideally suited for use with non-hazardous contaminants where flexible access to the equipment in the work zone is required.

Purair® FLOW Series vertical laminar flow cabinets are compact and are ideal for use where space is limited. All Purair FLOW models are equipped with HEPA filtration (optional ULPA filter) and LF Series hoods come standard with ULPA filtration. FLOW Series hoods (vertical flow) are also available in widths of 24in, 36in, and 48in.

Ductless Fume Hoods: Quality Assurance, Flavoring, Bitterness Testing

Quality assurance testing is performed throughout the brewing process to ensure a variety of variables are kept in check. Consistency in taste, acidity (bitterness) and flavor are important factors that brewers must consider. Laminar Flow Cabinets do not usually protect the product or the user when these tests are in process. Here, we recommend the use of ductless fume hoods equipped with carbon filtration.

Ductless fume hoods are cost-effective and they can be installed anywhere; no ducting to the outside is required. They are engineered to provide containment for a wide variety of vapors and particulates, allowing easy customization for any application. As standalone units, ductless fume hoods are also highly portable and can easily be moved to accommodate changing procedures and operations.
