The Microflex® Difference in Glove Sizing

“It fits like a glove…” How many times have we heard this phrase? The fit and feel of our gloves are vitally important to Microflex and our customers.

Glove Sizing

The Microflex® on-site laboratory monitors various dimensions, including weight, length, palm width, cuff thickness, palm thickness, and fingertip thickness, to ensure our gloves meet expectations in these areas. The most important dimensions in terms of fit, feel, and size for the glove industry are length, palm width, and thickness. When examined comprehensively, these characteristics give us the best picture of the true size of a glove.

Hand Size

The overall size of a hand is dictated by many factors. Compare your hand to a colleague’s hand to see for yourself. The major differences are usually in the palm width, the length of your fingers, and the thickness of your hand.

The length of a glove is defined as the distance between the bead and the tip of the middle finger. The palm width is measured parallel with the cuff across the glove at the thumb crotch. The palm width specification range for Microflex® products is tighter than the prescribed range of the ASTM.

Glove thickness can be measured at three places: the centerline reflecting the cuff, palm, and fingertip (as shown). The gradient dipping process is designed to produce a glove that is thickest at the tips and thinnest at the cuff. This is to ensure the greatest strength and protection where the customer needs it most.

It is easy for the size of a glove to be taken for granted. It is very important to Microflex to be a full-service glove provider, which includes ensuring that the fit of our products is consistent, along with meeting or exceeding ASTM standards, box to box, and case to case.

Glove Sizing Ruler

The provided sizing guide will help you determine what size to select for products in the Microflex® glove line. For ease of use, print this page and then cut out the ruler above for future reference.

Place the widest part of your hand over the size indicator.

Typically the widest part of your hand should be placed at the bottom left-hand corner of the ruler in the space between your palm and thumb (see Fig 1 above).

Use a pencil or pen to place a mark to the right of your hand to mark the widest part of your hand.

Remove your hand and check where the mark falls to determine your size.

If it falls towards the end or between two size bars, you will need to try on a size of each to determine which one fits you best.

Material

Microflex® gloves are specifically designed based on material type and anticipated application or use. The assumption that all gloves are sized the same and will thereby have a consistent fit across material types or applications is erroneous; for example, thinner latex products will offer more “give” to their wearer than thicker latex gloves.

Naturally, a person may wear a different size in each different glove type, depending on the application, use, and relative thickness. Similarly, synthetic products will fit to hands to a lesser degree than latex, which is considered in synthetic size design.

Conclusion

Keep in mind the variability in glove type when using the sizing chart above so you can find the size that fits you best. Once you’ve measured your hand and know your size, try on a pair of Microflex® gloves today to see how they fit.
